However, when you’ve got a few lingering around the home, it can be difficult to keep them all under control and away from the kitchen, thus making it unsanitary. So what are the best house fly traps out there?

How Does a House Fly Trap Work?

First things first, we’re going to be taking a look at the basic mechanics of the generic house fly trap should work.
The basic house fly trap should always work on two factors:

• Flies get attracted to food through their sense of smell, and are ten million times more sensitive to sugar than the human tongue.
• Their eyes are compound. This means that their vision is very bad, but they can detect movement and the changes of light patterns fairly well.

Based on these facts alone, the vast amount of successfully made house fly traps should consist of a container with something sugary inside of it, that has a small hole in the top.

Basically, the attractant will appeal to the fly, they’ll fly into the container via the small hole, and they’ll get stuck in the sticky, sugary consistency of the bait you put out for them. It’s that easy!

Home Made House Fly Trap Ideas

Make a DIY House Fly Trap #1

To successfully make house fly trap number one, all you’ll need is the following:

•  A wide mouth jar.
•  Sugar and water.
•  A cone.

In order to create the trap, all you need to do is follow the instructions listed below:

1. Cut a small hole, measuring around one diameter at the apex of the cone.
2.  Pour the sugar and syrup into a jar, and then place the cone upside down in the jar, so that the pointy end is at the bottom. You should be careful to ensure the cone is not touching the liquid. If you want the cone to hold firmly, you could use Sellotape to make sure of this.
3. Because of the sweet liquid inside of the jar, it should be placed around the area in which you’re seeing flies, and they should be attracted to, and fly into it. Once they have flown through the cone and gone into the sticky mixture, they won’t be able to get out.

It’s that easy.

Make a DIY House Fly Trap #2

This trap is very similar to the first one, but is a little more sturdy and can be reused. In order to create trap number two, you’ll need:

•  An empty plastic bottle – a water or soda bottle would be fine.
•  A sharp knife.
•  Sellotape.
•  Sugar syrup.

In order to create the trap, follow the instructions below:

1. Use the knife to cut the plastic bottle in half horizontally.
2. Drill a hole of around one centimetre in the cap of the bottle.
3. Carefully pour the syrup into the lower part of the bottle. Following this you should put the upper part of the bottle inside of this, upside down.
4. Fix them together properly using the Sellotape.
