What are the Most Effective Essential Oils When It Comes to Getting Rid of Bed Bugs?
It might surprise you to hear of this entirely safe and natural method of getting bed bugs – but it’s tried, tested, and trust us, it actually works!
Of course, you’ll still have to do the hoovering and the hot wash for hygiene reasons, or we would recommend it anyway, but in partnership with certain essential oils, this could get rid of your bed bug problem once and for all!
But which essential oils are the most effective for getting rid of bed bugs?
Read on to find out more!
NUMBER ONE: Lavender
The first essential oil we’d recommend using in the fight against bed bugs, is lavender.
Think about the scent of lavender. It has that extremely potent, herby, and slightly floral aroma that we as humans tend to love. It’s even been proven to help reduce anxiety, and aid in sleep!
Bed bugs, however, hate the stuff. Using lavender essential oil can help, not only to eliminate bed bugs in the first instance, but also to prevent re – infestation occurring.
NUMBER TWO: Tea Tree
Tea tree oil is also known as melaleuca and is native to Australia.
Tea tree has been used for years to treat health and skin issues, including the bites of bed bugs. The oil itself is highly antibacterial, so the bed bugs can’t stand it, and it will kill them and their eggs.
The strong smell also helps to deter any bugs who might be interested in coming into your space.
NUMBER THREE: Thyme
Thyme should be used with caution by certain people, for example, it’s not safe for the use of pregnant women, or young children.
Other than that, however, thyme is a powerful essential oil which is host to some natural insecticide qualities. These can help to kill, repel, and even prevent bed bugs from coming back.
NUMBER FOUR: Lemongrass
Lemongrass is actually rich in compounds which are highly effective in repelling, not only bed bugs, but various other insects also.
The smell of it, although strong, is extremely pleasant to the human nose – however bed bugs simply can’t bare it! this will stop them from accessing any areas on which it is applied.
NUMBER FIVE: Clove
Our fifth and final essential oil recommendation for getting rid of bed bugs, is clove.
Clove is known for its’ pungent smell, which is useful in deterring bed bugs. As well as this, it is rich in a property called eugenol which can be toxic to bugs, ultimately killing them on contact.
Clove oil should be used to soak all dark corners which could be hide outs for bed bugs. It will stop them from breeding.
