First things first, we’re going to be taking a look at the things that go “bite” in the night. They’re about as pleasant as they sound, and bed bugs are a real problem in many households.

They originated as a large issue in South America initially, but nowadays bed bugs are a worldwide issue, with the little critters even being prevalent in as far North as Canada nowadays. Rising temperatures due to climate change could have something to do with it, as a bed bug loves the warmth.

What do They Do?

Unfortunately, bed bugs and their overall function are not pleasant.

The bed bug lives in colonies, and their habitat tends to be in the seams and crevices in your bed – creepy, we know. They come around at night, and their aim is to drink your blood. Sort of like miniature vampires of sorts.

Their process? They bite, take a few steps to the next patch of flesh, and bite again. The reason behind this? They actually track their faeces in their bites which can cause infections. Yup, we told you they were gross.

Termites are often talked about in movies and the like – didn’t the Grinch have those in his teeth? Alas, they are not a fictional creature, but instead are one of the common household bugs.

Earwigs actually live between the indoors and outdoors.

• They actually spend the vast majority of their living time outdoors, and feed on the edges of leaves.
• They only live indoors during the Winter, and come into households in search of a place to stay warm.

Fun fact? Despite the name, they don’t live in your ears at all!

Basically, they’re harmless, so there’s no need to call in the exterminator. So leave them be, or simply pop them outside if they’re causing you hassle!

Whether you’re an arachnophobe, or you really don’t mind the eight – legged variety of household bugs, there are certain breeds which can prove tricky to find, and dangerous to have in the house.
