Why are there Spiders in my Basement?
The first thing you should be asking yourself if your basement is rife with spiders, is why they are there.
There are three main reasons why a spider might find its’ way into, and stay in your basement. We’re going to be detailing these further just below.
Food Sources
Like any other living creature in the world, spiders need food in order to survive.
Any insects in the basement will attract spiders as they are carnivorous. Therefore if your basement is rife with spiders, then your basement is likely rife with other insects first.
Moisture
Another reason spiders may have started making themselves comfortable in your basement, is because of the moisture down there.
If you have any kind of leak, get it sorted ASAP.
Hiding Places
Spiders look dark and inconspicuous hiding places, so if your basement is cluttered, they’ll find plenty of those.
Keeping it tidy is a good solution for this.

Lastly, we’re going to be listing some of the best ways of keeping spiders out of your basement.
Keep it Clutter Free
Decluttering – and keeping the basement clutter free – will remove spiders’ hiding places, which is one of their prime reasons for being their in the first place.
Have a clear out, and keep the space organised!
Use Peppermint Oil
Spiders cannot stand the scent of peppermint oil, and will scarper from it in a hurry. Therefore, spraying your basement with a peppermint oil based solution will help to keep them at bay.
Use Citrus Peel
Like peppermint oil, spiders can’t stand the scent of citrus peel.
An effective way of spreading it around, is by rubbing it on the affected area, so in this case that would be the basement.
Use White Vinegar
Similarly to citrus peel, white vinegar is highly acidic, and spiders cannot stand the smell of it. spraying a solution with it in round the basement will keep them at bay.
Using any of, or a combination of these methods will help to control the spider population in your basement.
